The Festival

Welcome to the Montpellier Medieval Festival.

Dive in a unique immersive experience, where you will be transported to the heart of the historic medieval world.

Here, the doors are wide open to you, whatever your chosen outfit. Whether you are a knight in shining armor, an elegant lady or a simple curious visitor, we invite you to join our village!

Our festival's primary mission is to promote fencing, this noble and fascinating art which has marked history. Epic tournaments and demonstrations from master swordsmen await you, offering an unforgettable spectacle where skill and bravery intertwine. Witness these thrilling clashes and feel all the excitement of this ancestral practice. For the more daring, it will be possible to try several forms of fencing.

The festival is the ideal opportunity to energize rural areas by offering a unique opportunity for local artisans, producers and traders to share their know-how and their creations inspired by the Middle Ages or simple pre-industrial techniques. Stroll among the stalls full of sparkling jewelry, sumptuous fabrics, authentic weapons, music and period creations. Stock up on unique treasures and support these talented actors of our heritage.

The Montpellier Medieval Festival also aims to be a fervent promoter of autonomy and resilience. With this in mind, some exhibitors will offer practical workshops on crafts, traditional agriculture and ancient techniques. Learn to make your own items, grow your own food, and develop your skills to live in harmony with nature. We believe in the importance of preserving this ancient knowledge, sources of wisdom and strength.

Join us on a journey through time, where history, entertainment and learning combine. The Montpellier Medieval Festival promises you unforgettable moments full of magic and authenticity. Immerse yourself in this unique experience and let yourself be captivated by the spirit of the Middle Ages.

Welcome to our medieval world!

Knowledge Corner

Did you know that

DSC00448.jpg
In the Middle Ages, anvils were often considered precious and symbolic objects. They were sometimes used as symbols of power and legitimacy for chiefs and kings.

In some parts of Europe, anvils were used in coronation ceremonies. The new ruler stood on an anvil as he received the acclamation of the people and was crowned, symbolizing the strength of his rule and his commitment to justice and craftsmanship.

This symbolic tradition of the anvil in coronation ceremonies was particularly widespread in Eastern Europe, notably among the Slavs and Scandinavians. It reflected the importance given to craftsmanship and the blacksmith profession in these societies.

This use of the anvil as a symbol of power and legitimacy highlighted the crucial role of metalwork and craftsmanship in medieval society. Blacksmiths and craftsmen were highly respected for their skills and contributions to making weapons, tools, and other items essential to daily life.

Thus, the medieval anvil was not only limited to its practical usefulness in blacksmithing work, but also had a deep symbolic meaning in the culture and society of the time.
